Get married outdoors, in the desert outside Dubai

We set up weddings on the red dunes at Lahbab, off the Hatta Road about 50 minutes from central Dubai. You get the site to yourselves: a ceremony timed to the sunset, a seated dinner at a private camp, and a 4x4 for every guest. We run the desert ourselves, so the seating, the lighting and the running order are built around your day rather than around a function room's schedule.

What this actually is

Outdoor wedding venues in Dubai, and what a desert one is

Most outdoor venues in Dubai are a hotel lawn or a beach terrace. This is neither. It is open desert, and your quote says in writing what your date covers.
A site, not a venue
There is no building. We bring in the seating, the matting, the lighting, the power, the sound and the kitchen, and we take all of it out again the next morning. What your date covers, and whether any other group is on the site, is written into your quote.
Timed to the light
From about 45 minutes before sunset you get roughly 40 minutes of low, warm light across the dunes. The ceremony is timed to that rather than to a round number on an invitation, and we hold the whole window for your photographer.
The sand is planned first
Soft sand is the one thing that can quietly ruin a desert wedding, so we design around it first. The ceremony site and the camp sit on firm, levelled ground, every walkway is matted, and the 4x4 drop off is a few metres from the seating.
We run this desert daily
We already run safaris out of this desert every day, with our own 4x4s and our own drivers, so the guest transfers, the dune route and the camp setup are things we do rather than things we subcontract. Dubai Desert King is a licensed Dubai operator.

How the day runs

The running order, built backwards from the sunset

Winter timings. We confirm the sunset time for your exact date when we quote, then build the running order backwards from it.
  1. Pickups from 3:00 PM

Our own 4x4s collect every guest free from any hotel or home address in Dubai and Sharjah. Guests driving themselves are met at a tarmac meeting point, because the dune route needs a 4x4.

A driver holding the rear door of a white 4x4 open at a hotel entrance in Dubai
  2. On site by 4:30 PM

Everyone arrives to shade, seating, water and cold towels. The drop off sits a few metres from the seating, and every walkway between areas is matted and lit.

Staff in black holding drinks trays line a matted walkway leading to a bamboo gateway, where guests step out of a white vehicle onto the sand
  3. Ceremony before sunset

The ceremony runs 45 minutes before sunset, which is the light you have seen in the photographs. Your photographer gets the whole golden hour window, about 40 minutes of it.

A couple in wedding clothes hold each other forehead to forehead on the sand, with a low curved desert lodge and a round fire pit behind them
  4. Dinner from 7:30 PM

The party moves to a private camp: one long laid table, round tables or majlis floor seating on rugs and cushions, with a live grill and a buffet or a plated menu.

A long white table running away from the camera at dusk, set with woven chargers, folded napkins and glass candle boxes down the centre
  5. Cars leave by 11:30 PM

Later by arrangement. Your coordinator is on the ground from setup until the last car leaves, and support is on WhatsApp at any hour while you plan and on the day itself.

Before you ask

Questions we get asked

What is the average cost of a wedding in Dubai, and what does a desert one cost?
We do not publish an average for Dubai, because the figure moves so much with the guest list and the kind of venue that it would not help you plan. What we can give you is our own floor: the per guest figure on this page is the lowest price we currently sell a private 4x4 safari for, so it is a starting point rather than a quote, and every wedding is priced on your numbers. The three things that move a desert quote are the guest count, whether you want a dinner or only a ceremony, and how much gets built on site. Send us your numbers and a date and you get a real figure, not a range.
How many guests can a desert wedding take?
From two guests up to 500. Two of you is a vow renewal or an elopement, up to 40 suits the ceremony only setup, 20 to 80 is the usual size for a camp dinner wedding, and 80 and up means a built site with a stage, a kitchen and restroom units. Above 500 we will talk to you about splitting the seating or extending the build, rather than quietly squeezing everyone in. Every tier includes free 4x4 transfers for every guest from Dubai and Sharjah.
Can older guests and wheelchair users manage a desert wedding?
Mostly yes, with notice. The ceremony site and the camp sit on firm, levelled ground, every walkway between areas is matted and lit, and the 4x4 drop off is a few metres from the seating rather than over a dune from it. If a guest uses a wheelchair or a walking frame, tell us before the day and we will move the drop off and the seating so nobody has to cross soft sand. We cannot make a dune itself accessible, and if part of your plan will not work for a particular guest we will say so while there is still time to change it.
Is there power, lighting and sound in the desert?
Yes, all of it brought in. We run two generators, one powering the event and one on standby, positioned far enough from the seating that you do not hear them. The lighting plan covers the ceremony, the dining area, every walkway, the changing room and the restrooms, which matters because the desert is completely dark once the sun sets. Sound is a PA sized to your guest count with a microphone for the ceremony and an input for a playlist, a live band or a DJ.
What is the best month for an outdoor wedding in Dubai?
November, February and March. You get warm afternoons, evenings cool enough that guests are comfortable all night, and the longest usable golden hour. October, December, January and April all work well too. We do not take desert wedding bookings between May and September, because daytime temperatures pass 45 degrees and no amount of planning makes that a good day for your guests. Bring light wraps whatever month you choose, as the temperature drops fast after dark.
Do we need a permit, and who arranges it?
We arrange the site with the camp operator and tell you in writing exactly what your date covers and what it does not, before you pay anything. If anything about your plan needs a further approval we will say so at the quote stage rather than on the day. What we need from you is the detail of anyone you are bringing in yourself, a photographer, a florist, a celebrant, a band, with names, vehicle details and arrival times about a week ahead, so that we can get them onto the site and powered up. If your plans involve drones, fireworks or live animals, raise it early, because those carry their own approvals and some of them we will decline.
How much does a desert photoshoot cost in Dubai, and can we book one without a wedding?
Yes, you can book a photoshoot on its own, and plenty of couples do: a pre wedding or engagement shoot, a session after the wedding in clothes you could not risk on the day, or a maternity or family shoot. It is quoted on your numbers, which for a shoot means how long you need and how many people are coming, so it costs considerably less than any wedding tier. You get a 4x4 out to the dune locations, a driver who knows which ridges photograph well, the golden hour held for you, and the site to yourselves. Bring your own photographer or ask us to arrange one.
