Al Badayer Retreat is about an hour away, among the dunes near Al Madam. Kingfisher Retreat is about 90 minutes away on a mangrove island off Kalba, and a private boat takes you across.

Dune bashing, sandboarding and sunset
Your driver picks you up from the retreat and heads into the Sharjah desert: a run over the dunes, gentler if you ask, some sandboarding, then sunset photos from a ridge.

What does the overnight price cover?
Your own 4×4 for every drive, the evening safari with dinner and shows, one night at the retreat you pick, and breakfast. You pay separately for lunch and anything else you order at the retreat, and for extras such as a quad ride, which you add when you book. You can't bring your own alcohol, but ask us and we can arrange it, depending on where you stay.

Do we sleep at a desert camp?
No. You sleep at a resort in Sharjah: a room at Al Badayer Retreat, or a resort tent with its own plunge pool at Kingfisher Retreat. The evening safari still stops at a desert camp for the camel ride, dinner and shows, then you head back to the retreat. We don't sell a night at a camp. To be back in Dubai the same night, book the evening safari.
Al Badayer or Kingfisher: which retreat should we choose?
Al Badayer is the desert option: a resort among the dunes near Al Madam, about an hour from Dubai, with a big family pool. Kingfisher sits on a mangrove island off Kalba, about 90 minutes away and reached by private boat, and each tent there has its own plunge pool. It costs more, and evenings end later because the dunes are further away.
Why does the price change with the date?
The From price is for one guest and one room on the cheapest night coming up at that retreat. Your date may cost more, and weekends do, because the price follows the retreat's room rate for that night. Pick a date when you book and you'll see the total for your group before paying.
Cancellation and changes
Cancel at least 14 days before your stay for a full refund, back on your card in 5 to 7 working days. After that, or if you don't show up, the booking cannot be refunded, because the retreat charges the room in full. If the weather turns bad, we offer you a new date, or a full refund if your stay is still 48 hours or more away.
What's the room like?
At Al Badayer it's a Deluxe King Room with a king bed, air conditioning, a rain shower and a minibar. At Kingfisher it's a One-Bedroom Tent Mountain View: a king-size bed, air conditioning, an indoor living area, outdoor seating and a private plunge pool. Both have free Wi-Fi.
Can we bring children, and how many rooms do we need?
Yes. Each room or tent takes two guests aged 3 and up, so three or four of you need two rooms. Children 3 and up pay the guest price. Under-3s go free, share your room and need a seat in the 4×4. Tell us everyone's age when you book, and we'll confirm the rooms.
Can we skip the dune bashing?
Yes, if you ask when you book. The dune drive is rough, so tell us before booking if you're bringing a baby or toddler, or if anyone is pregnant, has back or neck problems, has had recent surgery or gets motion sick. We'll check whether a gentler drive or leaving it out suits your group.
What should we pack for the night?
One small bag: swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and shoes that can take sand. From November to March, add a warm layer for the evening in the desert. Bring a passport or Emirates ID too, because hotels in the UAE ask for one at check-in.

All three get you home the same night. The evening and private safaris drive the Lahbab red dunes before dinner, while VIP dinner skips the dunes and brings the food to your table.
